Tonight was yet another new experience of being a parent. In Cincinnati and a lot of other areas as well there were some severe thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes. The sirens went off in the middle of the night for a tornado warning. Since we live in the middle of nowhere we actually can't even hear the sirens. We have a National Weather Service radio which has to be about one of the most annoying things ever. It goes off for every warning and the lowest volume still feels like it's shouting. The "alarm" for a warning on it is extremely obnoxious. It went off four times for various reasons (floods, severe thunderstorms, etc.) and by the fourth time I was done and unplugged it. I relied on my phone instead and then proceeded to turn on the TV at 1 in the morning because we were on a tornado warning until 1:45. This means to go to the basement or somewhere that's without windows. Never experienced this with a baby. I was stumped for a minute, what to do?. Wake up our sleeping baby for possibly nothing?. But, then again, if something did happen and we didn't I would never forgive myself. Even more frustrating is that we live in the middle of a farm and don't even have a basement. Our house is on top of our garage on the 2nd story. So, my husband and I grabbed the dogs and the baby and went into our bathroom with no windows for the next 30 minutes. Somehow our son went right back to sleep...nothing a little bottle didn't help fix! Waking up a sleeping baby during a tornado warning is definitely no fun but I'd rather be safe than sorry! Needless to say, everything was fine and eventually our dog who gets freaked out by storms, let us go back to sleep.
