If you're a new mom, don't waste your money on cotton swaddles. My friend kept raving about the Halo brand of swaddles and I couldn't understand why. Now I get it. Our son has been living in his Halo swaddle at night since the first few weeks he was born. He did originally have a fleece non-name brand swaddle and he was OK in that. But, he did quickly outgrow it. His flannel Halo swaddle was 3-9 months and we've loved every minute of it. If you're not a parent or never had a swaddle when you had babies then you'll think it's almost mean to put your child in it. It literally looks like a straight-jacket for babies. But, something about being so tight and cozy (probably just like they were when they were in the womb) helps our son go to sleep. He's overstimulated from the day and the swaddle is calming. He's quickly outgrowing his Halo swaddle and we're in a panic. His arms fly up while he's sleeping and wake him up. Plus he loves how the swaddle rides up to his chin and he can bury the bottom of his face in it. We bought a cotton swaddle for up to a year (not Halo brand) and it's been terrible. He can't bury his face in it because it's not thick enough to reach his face and since it's cotton, his little arms are strong enough to break free. So, what have we had to endure the past two nights? - our son waking up several times because he hates the new swaddle. Cotton swaddles have too much give to them and babies are able to bust out of them. I've had several moms complain about this. Therefore, my advice is to stick to Halo swaddles for as long as they can fit!
